Devos Outdoor LightRanger 1200 Review & Overview
Detailed Review of the LightRanger 1200 from Devos Outdoor - The New and Improved LED Lantern For Outdoor Enthusiasts
Being a long time user of the LightRanger 800 from Devos Outdoor I recently got the chance to test out the brand new LightRanger 1200. The new and improved design is packed a ton of impressive features that make it super functional for camping, overlanding, backyard barbecues, and such much more.
Devos Outdoor is leading the industry in the portable lighting eco-system, so let’s deep dive into what makes the new LightRanger 1200 stand out and all of its key features.
Differences Between the LightRanger 800 and LightRanger 1200
With the new and improved design, there are some key differences that stand out. Mainly the biggest difference you will first notice is that the LightRanger 1200 has made the move to USB-C instead of the Micro-USB that the original LightRanger had. This makes a huge difference in charging times allowing you to charge to 60% in 1 hour and 3.5 hours for a full charge with the LightRanger 1200 compared to 8 hours for a full charge for the LightRanger 800.
The next big change is actually with how waterproof the LightRanger is. With the original version, it was IPX4 and the new 1200 is IPX6. IPX4 is splash resistant while IPX6 can withstand being sprayed with water at high pressure.
The LightRanger 1200 also comes with a new and improved telescoping pole. The new design is even more compact but can still extend to 108”. This means that you can raise the light around 9 feet to keep the bugs away from your face, food, and walking area but still small enough you can store it just about anywhere.
The LightRanger 800, as Devos states, is "Great for use around the house, in an emergency kit, go-bag and for the space-constrained or budget-minded camper."

20 Watt Portable Solar Panel w/ LightRanger receiver
If you’re like me, making sure to charge all of your electronics before a camping trip can be a nightmare, not to mention having to make sure you have enough battery for all of them to last for the entire tip. The 20 Watt Portable Solar panel ensures your LightRanger charges during the day so you can have a full battery by sundown. Although it seems small, the 20 Watt Solar Panel can actually charge your LightRanger 1200 in as little as 5 hours (in peak daytime conditions).

Features both USB-C and USB-A ports.
Built in LightRanger receiver to quickly and securely attach it to to the top of the LightRanger 1200.
AMPak 10 Portable Power Bank
If solar isn’t your thing but you still want to extend the battery life of your LightRanger 1200, the AMPak10 is the perfect choice. The AMPak10 is a portable power bank that securely attaches to the top of the LightRanger and doubles the battery life. It features two USB-C ports that have fast charge protocol to charge your LightRanger or other devices. If you don’t have anything that charges via USB-C, the AMPak10 also comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Super compact as it’s the same dimensions as the top of the LightRanger (4” x 4” x 2”)
Weighs only 9 ounces.
IPX6 waterproof
Unique design allows you to attach the 20 Watt solar panel on top making the perfect off-grid eco-system.
LightRanger 1200 Colored Filter Kit
With as much light as the LightRanger puts out, bugs are a valid concern. Pairing the LightRanger 1200 with the Colored Light Filter Kit from Devos outdoor allows you to change up the mood and provides some pretty useful features alongside it.
Kit Includes:
Red Filter - Red light has no glare and is less harsh on the eyes which preserves your night vision and still allows you to see clearly at night. This filter would be perfect for those that love stargazing and still want to be able to see around their campsite.
Amber Filter - The amber light filter gives you a cozy and warm fireplace vibe around your campsite and attracts less bugs than normal white light.
Yellow Filter - If you want the most brightness from your LightRanger but white light is too harsh on your eyes, the yellow filter is perfect and even adds a warm tone to your campsite.
Heavy Duty Carrying Case
Organization is key in just about everything, even with the LightRanger 1200. The Heavy Duty Carrying Case protects your LightRanger and accessories and keeps all of your gear organized to minimize the hassle of having to dig through your gear. Made out of heavy duty nylon, the case can withstand tons of adventures without having to worry about tearing or falling apart.
Although it seems small, the Heavy Duty Carrying Case can hold up to two LightRangers and telescoping stands, two 20 Watt Solar Panels, two AMPak10 power banks, two colored filter kits, charging cords, and other gear.
My Thoughts
Going from the LightRanger 800 to the new and improved LightRanger 1200, I was immediately able to tell the difference in how much brighter it is. This makes it perfect for all of my camping trips and even backyard barbecues as I can light up the entire space with much less equipment. With all of the awesome accessories you can pair with the LightRanger, I have discovered so many more uses for it and it has easily become my go-to lighting equipment.
